about me.

My name is Mary Kline-Misol, and I’m from Des Moines, Iowa. I received my BFA (’74) and MFA (’86) degrees from Drake University. Between 1976 and 1999, I taught art in Newton, IA and Des Moines. I was a  founding partner of Artisan Gallery 218 in Des Moines’s historic Valley Junction from 2015-2023. I’m now an independent artist.

My imagery revolves around figurative subjects, compositions, botanicals, and landscapes. My still life works incorporate ethnic objects, such as puppets and ceramic figures, that I personify with their placement in the compositions. I strive for a portrait-like quality in my figurative works. I am influenced by literature, myth, poetry, and the wildlife in my own backyard.

I have shown my work extensively in regional shows and have worked in a widening circle of private and public collections in the Midwest. Please visit the Collections page for a complete list of my public collections.
